Mrs A. Bewley

“I was a pupil in this school during the Second World War. Part of the time we only had school half days. The Derby Road Infants’ School stored the furniture from bombed houses. When we shared Widden School with Derby Road School we only had lessons half days.

In later years, my husband taught with Mr Cook the headteacher. I returned to Widden in 1974 as Clerical Assistant to the Infants and they almagamated I moved to the new school and left there in 1990.

I also remember the Queen’s visit and that the children were disappointed that she didn’t wear her crown”

  • Mrs Bewley, My name is Tony Burford (dob 31/12/1946) & I remember your husband with great affection. He convinced my parents to send me to Central Technical High School when I passed my 11+ as his (your) son went there. I remember Mr. Cook as well (had the cane a couple of times). He had a bit of a tic as I remember, he used to smile & then move his shoulders as if he was trying to make his jacket more comfortable. This is bringing back a flood of memories for me. I see your page was added in 2011 & now it’s 2022. I do hope you both had a good life & are in good health? I want to thank Mr. Bewley for the influence that he had on my life. Regards & Love Tony Burford x
