Sparkes Bakery on Ryecroft Street Gloucester

Hi everyone, this is just a note for you that use Facebook. I have created a Facebook  page about the history of Sparkes Bakery. I see a few local people have already shown interest in this page.  I hope some of you might like to check this out.

Thank you to everyone who has shown interest in the history of Sparkes Bakery.  We have also had a lot of interest shown on the Facebook page. If anyone who uses Facebook, could let us know how they found out about our Facebook page, this will help our research into how things are progressing.

Many thanks, Phil Sparkes  (Grandson).

  • Loved those drippers, they used to deliver to Saintbridge School every day in the ’70s, and there was always a big scramble in the playground to get one or two at breaktime. We had to buy tickets for them earlier in morning 20p each I think. After I left school if I was cycling by I would pop in and get some for me and our Mum on way home. I’ve never seen drips that nice anywhere ever since and wish I could find some. Don’t know when they closed down.

  • Hi ,
I used to work at Sparkes Bakery on the delivery van from late 1968 to 1971 then I
emigrated to New Zealand and I am still
here although Ken said I was mad to go.
I loved working at Sparkes and often think
about Ken and Phillis with fond memories.

  • Does anyone remember Paris buns? Have looked everywhere for a recipe but no luck. Bakeries like Sparkes don’t exist anymore

  • Sparkes bakery had the best dripping cakes ever, they used to deliver to Comptons factory in Derby Road and we used to fight over who would get the corner ones.  I was gutted when they shut.
