St James' Community Heritage Project

Gloucestershire Archives (ref. NV3/3/1)

We’re delighted to announce that a local project application to the Heritage Lottery Fund has been successful. St James’ Church in Upton St in Gloucester, supported by Gloucestershire Archives, is undertaking a one-year project collecting memories of the Church Community and its relationships within the Barton and Tredworth area of Gloucester. We will also scan heritage material from residents within the parish, and particularly those connected with the Church and its CofE School. Both the recorded memories and the scanned images will be preserved at the Archives, and edited material will also be available on our partnership website, www.bartonandtredworth.org.uk, where you can keep up to date with the project’s progress.

If you’d like to know more about the project, please come along to the Barton & Tredworth Cultural Fayre in St James’ Park off Upton St on Saturday 16 August, where we will have a stall. Alternatively please attend our Memory Fair at St James’ Church on 13 September where, as well as hearing about the history of the Church and its partnership with the School, you will also have an opportunity to share your own recollections on a 1:1 basis or as part of a group if you wish. The current Writer in Residence at the University of Gloucestershire will also be on hand to share her expertise in using memory as the basis for creative writing.

If you have stories, photos or memorabilia to share, or would be interested in finding out about volunteering for the project, please contact Rev Tom Wilson to find out more. Either give him a ring on 01452 422349 or send an email to: vicar@st-jamesgloucester.org.uk.
