“I work in Barton, at Widden, so this is a memory of taking a party of Year 6 children to ‘Bracelands’, in the Forest of Dean, on a residential trip. It was about 12 years ago.
My late father was one of the adults (being a Forest man) and he told the kids about the wildlife, particularly the birds of prey. Part way through a walk, dad got the party to stop and listen.
‘Listen – hear that mewing? Look up – something is flying, now what might it be?’
Silence.
‘Think b… buzz… Anybody?’
Up pipes Fatima, age 10, ‘I know! Bumblebee!'”
